What trends in C++

C++ is where performance-critical software lives: game engines and emulators, graphics and audio, databases, robotics, and the inference engines that run language and vision models on local hardware. A project can be on this list even if most of its users call it from Python, because the language is assigned by where most of the code is.

Expect a build, not a command

Trying a C++ project usually means installing a compiler and dependencies and running a build system, or downloading a release binary. Those steps do not fit in one line, and this site does not pretend they do: there is no command box unless the README has a real install line. Check the release page of the repository for prebuilt downloads.

For all languages together, see today’s list, this week or this month.

Questions and answers

More detail on the method page.

Where does the C++ list come from?

From GitHub’s own page for the language, github.com/trending/c++?since=daily, read by our collector. Order and “stars today” are GitHub’s.

Why is there usually no install command for C++ projects?

C++ projects are typically built from source with CMake or another build system, in several steps. We do not present a clone or build recipe as if it were an install command.

Why is a project with Python bindings listed under C++?

The language is the one with the most code. An inference engine or a database with a C++ core and thin Python bindings counts as C++, even if most people use it from Python.
